seaeco.com - ignored by Google - update
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
My recent article "seaeco.com - ignored by Google", (and now republished on this blog) although not highly read on my site, was posted to the CSS Creator forum and Search Engine Watch forums and received a good response, not many had any ideas that i hadn't already addressed (but thanks for trying), but there was definitely a lot of views (650 to date).
I had contacted Google on a number of occasions, to see what the problem was and never recieved anything more than an automatically generated reply to look at the Guidelines for creating a Google-friendly site which i must have read ten times already. Until the other day, well last week actually, after trying again to contact Google, i received a reply:
Dear (name deleted to protect the innocent) Thank you for your note. We understand your concern and have passed your message on to our engineering team for further investigation. We appreciate your patience. Regards, The Google TeamDoes that sound like a computer generated reply too? It made me think - did the fact that "ignored by Google" appeared in quite a few places have anything to do with it? I'm not sure, but just in case it wasn't, I am being patient as i was asked to. I'm not here to bag Google, i still use them for just about every search i do but i figure that the more this article is read, the more likely somebody will come up with a new idea for me or hopefully a solution. I'm really looking forward to finding out what their reply will be ...I'll keep you posted. check out the website yourself and see if you can figure out what's going on - i'm grateful for any help i get Whale watching in Dunsborough with Sea Eco Yacht Cruises

Google's confusing your site with www.searsoil.com.
Look at info:www.seaco.com. Notice how Google's taking it's description and URL from www.searsoil.com.
This could be "PageJacking" but I think it's an honest mistake.
Go to http://www.google.com/support/bin/request.py and click "I'm a webmaster inquiring about my webpage" then select "Why my site disappeared from the search results or dropped in rankingââ¬ï¿½ and click continue. In the webform that you get to, make sure you put ââ¬Åcanonicalpageââ¬ï¿½ in the Subject line, then put the details in the Message body.
That's what a high profile Google engineer would suggest. It'll take a long time for Google to investigate this so please don't hold your breath.

Ach. I've just read to the top of your blog and see that you've sorted it. I guess Google was confused about the www variant of your domain but not the non-www. I imagine that info: search might naturally clear in time.
Thanks Andrew
I've popped them an email just in case
It only got found a few daysa ago after adding that mod_rewrite so we'll see how it progresses.
It's a handy thing to know to check if it ever happens again though
Cheers
