Researching Keywords
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
When designing a website i have been concentrating on getting the right look for the client, using only validating CSS and XHTML. All the websites I design are hand coded and i take pride in the fact that they all conform to the curent web standards as set out by the W3C.
Firstly and most importantly, i research keywords, the most relevant to my clients business, the keywords used by my clients' competitors and then refine the keyword choice by assessing the KEI - see an explanation of Keyword Effectiveness Index.
I use Web CEO for this purpose, download a WebCEO trial and give it a go. It's a pretty simple interface.
This should be the first step a webdesigner makes when commissioned for a new website. By starting with the keywords, it allows you to construct the entire website around the keywords you have researched - giving your client the optimum chance of good results within the Search Engines.
Of course, the website still has to present the clients' products and services to the 'reader' as well as the spiders, but starting off with an intention to include the most beneficial keywords help you to structure the page effectively.
I'll be posting again later or tomorrow with some good links to useful Keyword placement resources and articles. They are by the pro's so read 'em and learn
